The Norwegian Ambassador, Jan Braathu, visits the towns of Sokolac and Pale.

On Friday 21. September 2007 the Norwegian Ambassador, Mr. Jan Braathu, visited the towns of Sokolac and Pale. The ambassador met with Ms. Gordana Vukuvic who is the daughter of the founder of the Association for Norwegian- Serbian friendship, as well as taking a look at the newly opened branch of the Association in Pale. The Ambassador also had a meeting with the Mayor of Pale.

The day begun with a visit at the home of Ms. Vukuvic. The Ambassador signed the friendship book of the Association of the Norwegian- Serbian friendship and gifts were handed over.

The ambassador then visited the neighbouring village of Knežina. He was shown the village’s thermal sources, the construction of a 500 years old mosque, as well as taking a stroll through the main street.

In Pale, a meeting with the mayor was on the agenda. Issues of economy were discussed; what are the premises for economical growth in Pale, and with which tools can this be achieved? The Norwegian Ambassador stressed the importance of creating a future in Pale and the rest of Bosnia and Herzegovina which is attractive for young people, and he expressed his concern about a “brain drain” in the country and highlighted that “polls show that up to 80% of young people would leave the country if they had the chance”. The Ambassador also stressed the importance of stability in BiH and the region in order to attract foreign investors. 

The day ended with a visit to the newly founded office of the Association for Norwegian- Serbian friendship in Pale. The Ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the office and stated that the remaining part now was to fill the office with activities.
