Norwegian Foreign Minister in the New York Review of Books
Last updated: 22.03.2011 //
The Norwegian Foreign Minister features in the latest edition of the prestigious journal “The New York Review of Books” with an article on dialogue as a tool in international politics.
The starting point for the article is the ongoing upheaval in the Middle East, and it emphasizes that there is no realistic alternative to dialogue for meeting the Islamic movements. Only through confronting these, and holding them accountable for their political points of view, can one hope to avoid that they are driven into isolation and portray themselves as “martyrs” because no one is willing to talk to them. Isolation will only contribute to strengthening their view of the West as morally ambivalent in their message on democracy in the Middle East.
