Norway Supports Efforts to end Violence Against Women

Violence against women and girls is a gross violation of human rights, and a major challenge affecting countries around the world. Norway supports this year’s #OrangetheWorld campaign and 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence.

The Norwegian Embassy, together with our Swedish counterpart, light the embassies’ common façade in orange on the night to 25 November, the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women. The orange colour is used to raise awareness and encourage action to end all violence against women and girls around the world. The Norwegian and Swedish Embassies will also have a slide show on the monitors facing Ferhadija with information, facts and figures regarding violence against women and gender equality, throughout the 16 Days of Activism, 25 November to 10 December.

Women’s empowerment and gender equality is a core Norwegian value. Ending violence against women and girls is a priority for Norwegian foreign policy and development aid.
Norway recently launched a new and ambitious action plan to promote gender equality and women’s rights in foreign and development policy. Read more on https://www.regjeringen.no/en/aktuelt/promote_equality/id2510278/.
