Freedom of Expression is a very important issue. The Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jonas Gahr Store, presented an initiative aimed at strengthening freedom of expression and independent media in areas of conflict. Norway has donated about 100 million Norwegian Kroner for the promotion and protection of independent media through several organisations who are promoting freedom of expression. Norway will continue supporting this issue and will increase its support with an additional 15 Million Kroner.
Issues regarding Freedom of Expression is the topic at the Global Inter – Media Dialog in Bali. The president of Indonesia and the Prime Minister of Norway are co-hosting the Global Inter – Media Dialog with the aim to contribute to bridging gaps between different religions, cultures and people.
The dialogue will be a forum for leading media actors from all over the world to discuss the meaning and importance of freedom of expression.
The editor of The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN), Nidzara Ahmetasevic, will participate at the Dialogue in Bali. The BIRN editor stressed the importance of the Dialogue for her work in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). “It is important to give Bosnian journalism a voice in such international forums as well as exchanging experiences with colleagues from all over the world”, Ahmetasevic underlined.
