The newly reconstructed and refurbished courthouse of the Basic Court in Modriča was officially reopened on Tuesday December 13th.
A number of guests, judges, staff, journalists and officials were present at the courthouse opening in Modriča, among others Mladen Krekić, mayor of Modriča Municipality, Zdenko Vranjić, president of the Basic Court in Modriča, Milorad Novković, president of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH, Aleksandar Džombić, Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, and Norwegian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vibeke Lilloe.
The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH is the initiator and implementer of the courthouse reconstruction in Modriča and the project has been jointly financed by the Norwegian Government and the Government of Republika Srpska.
The justice sector has been among Norway’s main priorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina for many years, and the overall goal for Norwegian support is to contribute to a well functioning and efficient judiciary in BiH, and to create conditions for more efficient processing of cases, as Ambassador Vibeke Lilloe pointed out.
The reconstructed courthouse is not only clean, bright, spacious and well equipped, but also vastly bigger than the old courthouse, as another floor has been built, adding 470m2 to the Basic Court’s premises.
As the court house in Modriča has been laboring under a sizeable backlog of cases, Ambassador Lilloe also reminded that the vastly improved working conditions is expected to bring about a significant reduction in the Court’s backlog and a working environment far more conductive to efficient operations.
