Grieg in Bosnia and Herzegovina

18 June 2007 the Norwegian Embassy in Sarajevo arranged a reception at the Norwegian residence to mark the inauguration of the year of Edvard Grieg in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

2007 marks the year of the 100-year commemoration of the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg’s death. Edvard Grieg and his music are therefore on the cultural agenda all over the world this year, and Bosnia and Herzegovina is no exception.

During the small event in the residence, the local musicians Dario Vucic on piano, Melisa Hajrulahovic a soprano, and Boris Loncar on violin, performed two pieces from the “Peer Gynt Suite I”, “Solveig’s Song” and “Morning”. The music performances at the reception were a small taste of what to come in the fall. Under the direction of the conductor Dario Vucic, a fifteen member chamber orchestra, in addition to the musicians playing at the reception, will perform an hour long concert playing the music of Edvard Grieg. The musicians will visit Banja Luka, Mostar and Tuzla. The dates will be presented later on the Embassy’s webpage www.norveska.ba.

Present at the reception were representatives from the Bosnian cultural elite, musicians, people from the theatre and media, in addition to some Norwegians working in BiH. The Norwegian Ambassador Mr. Jan Braathu gave a speech about Edvard Grieg, so that the guests could learn more about the composer. Read the Ambassador's speech HERE.
