Arve Henriksen, Norwegian jazz trumpet player, had a concert together with Jan Bang (live sampling) in Sarajevo’s Kamerni Teatar (Strange Fruits Stage) early November 2005.
The concert was an opportunity for us to hear one of the most promising Norwegian jazz trumpet players. Arve's way of using the instrument goes from standard to excitingly experimental. Supported by Jan's live music sampling, the whole event was a perfect chance to get a real feeling of true contemporary jazz.
A few words about the musicians.
Arve studied at University of Trondheim, Department of Music, and has since 1989 worked as a freelance musician. He has worked with a wide selection of musicians, like Jon Balke, Anders Jormin, Edward Vesala, Jon Christensen, Marilyn Mazur, Marilyn Crispell, Nils Petter Molvær, Misha Alperin, Arkady Shilkloper, Marc Ducret, Ketil Bjørnstad, Tore Brunborg, The Cikada String Quartet, Supersilent and Motorpsycho. Arve recently released the album Chiaroscuro, with Jan Bang (electronica, sampling) and Audun Kleive (percussion).
Jan Bang is presently one of the most wanted persons at the Norwegian jazz scene when it comes to live sampling and sound processing. He is the founder and the leader of the project Jan Bang Panavision Series, an unreplaceable member of any formation of Nils Peter Molvaer, Sidsel Endresen Group, and the band «Grace».
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Sarajevo was one of the sponsors of the 9th Sarajevo Jazz Fest.
