Republika Srpska and Statkraft sign agreement on extensive power collaboration

  ( Banja Luka 29.januar 2008 ) The prime minister of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik and Statskraft executive Bård Mikkelsen, signed a long term agreement for the construction of four hydropower plants on the river Verbas in Bosnia and Herzegovina ( BiH ).  

The Norwegian energy company Statskraft is the second largest provider of renewable energy in Europe. Statskraft’s ambition is to become Europe’s largest provider of renewable energy, and the collaboration with Republika Srpska is an important step towards fulfilling this ambition. The agreement will also have an important value for the economic growth in Republika Srpska.

 

The project aims at constructing four hydropower plants with a combined installed capacity of 75 MWh and an annual production of 450 GWh. Total investment is expected to be over 100 million Euro.

 

The collaboration also has a more permanent value for BiH. In addition to this project, Statkraft has expressed interest in future investments and projects in other parts of BiH.

 

The Norwegian Royal Embassy in Sarajevo supports the involvement of Statkraft and hopes other Norwegian and international businesses acknowledge the business potential of BiH.
