Documentation for applying for residence/ work permit

The issues related to obtaining a residence/ work permit for Norway are regulated by Norwegian Law / Immigration Act of 24 June 1988 and Regulations concerning the entry of foreign nationals into the Kingdom of Norway and their presence in the realm of 2 June 1997.

The decision on granting a residence/ work permit is taken by the UDI (Norwegian Directorate of Immigration). Documentation requested for residence/ work permit depends on the type of permit applied for. For more detailed information, please contact the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Sarajevo.

If an applicant is granted a residence/ work permit the Royal Norwegian Embassy will issue a D visa.

Residence Permits for Students:

If you have been admitted to a university, scientific college, state college, college for art, upper secondary school, one year of course or study in a private school, you can apply for a residence permit.
Everybody applying for a residence permit (any type), must deliver the application in person at the Embassy. The Embassy then sends the application to the UDI in Oslo. You should apply a minimum two months before you plan to travel.

Necessary documents:

• The application form (provided by the Embassy or from our website)
• Two passport size photographs on white background, maximum 3 months old, taken with the applicant facing the camera directly
• Passport and copies of all pages (also blank pages)
• Documentation of fulfilled education (certificate, translated)
• Documentation of admission to an approved educational institution in Norway
• Study plan
• Documentation of subsistence (documentation of granted scholarship, support from an institution: Røde Kors, Nordisk, United World College, NORAD and alike or documentation of paid subsistence (85 000 NOK) in a Norwegian bank account if possible. If this is not possible, contact the Norwegian university/ school for detailed information how to deposit the subsistence at the university/school until your arrival in Norway)
• Documentation on proving the place of residence should refer to the period written in the application for residence permit (if the accommodation is not provided by some of the institutions which granted the scholarship). Accommodation will be considered as provided when there is an apartment, a house, a room at disposal or if the accommodation is provided in boarding house (enclose a copy of the lease signed by owner)
• Birth Certificate (international type)

Necessary documents for work permit:

• The application form (provided by the Embassy or from our website)
• Two passport size photographs on white background, maximum 3 months old, taken with the applicant facing the camera directly
• Passport and copies of all pages (also blank pages)
• Work offer (Offer of Employment) or work contract (original or certified copy)
• Original certificate of education or certified copy
• Translation of this certificate to Norwegian or English language, certified by a court interpreter
• If you are not formally educated for the job you are supposed to do in Norway, it is necessary to prove that you have the same number of years work experience in this type of job as the specialist education in the school lasts. Submit the original documentation of your work experience as well as a translation of this into Norwegian or English language (certified by a court interpreter)
• Birth-, Marriage Certificate

NOTE:
The Embassy will inform you if additional documentation is required.

The processing fee is at the moment BAM 270 (Bosnian marks) and is payable upon handing in the application.
Applications for children under the age of 18 are free of charge.
Please note that the fee will not be reimbursed in case the application is rejected.
