Family Reunification

Documentation for applying for family reunification

Family reunification means that a family member abroad is reunited with one or more family members already living in Norway. The aim of the provisions on family reunification is to protect already established family ties. Closest family members such as spouses, cohabitants who have lived together for at least two years, parents (self-supported mother or father who is older than 60 years of age and without any close relative in the native county) and children under 18 years of age could be granted a residence permit to be reunited with their family. A registered partner is considered along the same lines as a spouse.

If an applicant is granted a family reunification the Royal Norwegian Embassy will issue a D visa.

Necessary documents:

• The application form (provided by the Embassy or from our website)
• Two passport size photographs on white background, maximum 3 months old, taken with the applicant facing the camera directly
• Passport and copies of all pages (also blank pages)
• If the reference is a Norwegian citizen, a copy of the Norwegian passport’s first page (with the personal data). If not, a copy of the page with the personal data and the page with the valid residence permit
• Birth Certificate of the applicant as well as the Birth- or Marriage Certificate of the reference (international type). Other necessary, documentation confirming the family relationship
• Work contract, the gross yearly salary and the last three months salary slips of the reference in Norway
• Documentation of housing of the reference in Norway (sales or rental contract)
• Certificate of residence of the reference in Norway (bostedsattest)

NOTE:
The Embassy will inform you if additional documentation is required.

The fee for a first time application is at the moment BAM 730 (Bosnian marks). Subsequent applications cost BAM 270.
Applications for children under the age of 18 are free of charge.
Please note that the fee will not be reimbursed in case the application is rejected.
