Women’s Centre in Velika Kladusa

The Norwegian Embassy has supported computer classes for women through the women’s centre “Stope Znanja”. 31 July 2007 the Norwegian Ambassador Jan Braathu visited the women’s centre in Velika Kladusa.

Stope Znanja works with different woman related issues such as trafficking, domestic violence, women and health, gender issues, and women in education. The organisation has been active in assisting women ever since 1993. This summer Stope Znanja has arranged computer classes for women with support from the Norwegian Embassy in Sarajevo. The objective has been to train the participants in general and economic computer skills in order to strengthen their position in the society. After completing the class the women are more prepared to start working. New computers and software were purchased and training was provided by the company Procom d.o.o. which is located at the BIT-centre in Tuzla.

The contact between the women’s centre and the Norwegian Embassy was arranged through the Norwegian LOT house which is situated in Cazin, the neighbouring municipality to Velika Kladusa.

During the Norwegian Ambassador Jan Braathu’s visit to the Stope Znanja on 31 July 2007, he stressed the importance of participation of women in all aspects of society, in order for the society to evolve in the best possible way. He also hoped that the computers will be used often and by as many as possible. Computer skills are knowledge which can generate more resources which are valuable for the local society. The women’s own initiative to improve their position in the community was highly appreciated by Braathu.
