MA in Gender Studies

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry support a new MA in Gender Studies which start in the fall 2006 at the University of Sarajevo, Center for Interdiciplinary Postgraduate studies.

The Master in Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary postgraduate programme, which lasts for two years, divided in four semesters. The main aim of the project should be to educate and train the post-graduate students from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region on various aspects necessary to understand gender issues, and to apply this knowledge into practice. The structure of the lectures and the participating Faculty strongly emphasise a regional approach. The MA Program is lasting two academic years, divided in four semesters. Teaching activities are scheduled in Sarajevo, followed by internship in NGOs, GOs and IGOs institutions within the region. The project should directly contribute to the development of human capital needed for the implementation of the BiH Gender Equality Action, and it fits well into the overall ongoing Bologna process of Education.

Classes will consist of lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops, presentations, working visits, and interactive teaching methods where a central element is capacity building. The inclusion of interdisciplinary studies is an innovation for the educational system of BiH, where the interdisciplinary approach has not been yet included in the undergraduate studies.
