The Royal Norwegian Embassy supports two of the NGOs involved in the court support network: Izvor in Prijedor, and the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Republika Srpska, based in Bijeljina.
The project focuses on the establishment of a network of different organizations that works on supporting witnesses and potential witnesses in cases regarding the War Crimes Chamber in BiH. There is hope that this will establish a process were the public will receive and achieve more information about the Bosnian court system, and about its limits and possibilities. This is done to increase public trust in the courts, since many Bosnians feel a discontent against it.
Through information about the role of the court and the opportunities and limits the court has, there is a hope that the trust to the institution will increase. And with that, more witnesses will come forward to the court.
One of the organizations involved with this project, is Izvor, located in Prijedor. Izvor works in regard to victims of the conflict (family, camp, inmates, etc), and is well known for their work in BiH.
The work of the Helsinki Committee in RS is also very important, since the faith and trust in the War Crimes Chamber are particularly low in this entity. The NGO has undertaken several activities over the years, to inform the citizens of BiH if the importance of human rights, the European Convention of Human Rights and the basic freedoms. This has been done by monitoring the enforcement of human rights in BiH.
