The association was established in 2002, and has as its core principle to include all persons with amputation regardless of racial, national or political background. Because of this the organisation receives great respect. Also, as the amputees are a group both economically neglected and overlooked by the society as such, they are a sensitive group that are in need of external support. The association helps disabled persons in social and economical reintegration, as well as in areas of advocacy and representation in cooperation with institutions that provide services to this category of people. They also work intensively to solve problems in purchase of orthopedic devices, which is priority on the way to absolute and complete reintegration of persons with bodily defects into the local community.
The aim with the sport activities for persons with amputations is to strengthen the position of this group of disabled persons in the local community, and to remove the barriers for integration of amputees in society. In addition, the organisation wishes to improve and strengthen the life quality of the disabled persons by engaging them in regularly sport activities. The sport project supported by Norway is implemented in cooperation with the Norwegian LOT-house in Cazin. It was also the Norwegian LOT-house that established contact with the Norwegian Embassy and made them aware of the project.
In February 2007 the association managed to put together a volleyball team, and by the use of some of the grants from the Norwegian Embassy they purchased 10 new volleyballs. Already now, the organisation is planning on several tournaments in seating volleyball. In September there will be a memorial tournament dedicated to Princess Diana, and in December they will mark the World’s day of disabled persons with an international tournament in seating volleyball.
31 July 2007 the Norwegian Ambassador Jan Braathu visited Velika Kladusa and “Amputirac”. He was positive toward the organisation, and appreciated the fact that the locals take initiatives in order to improve their situation.
