Norwegian Financial Contribution to the Activities of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) 2007/08.

The contribution is given to support truth seeking processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina through ICMPs work with developing, implementing and managing the technical process of assisting governments in excavations, examinations and identifications of persons missing as the result of the war in the former Yugoslavia. This includes identification of sites, recovery and anthropological examination of mortal remains; collecting blood samples from families with missing relatives; and preparation, profiling, administration and archiving of DNA extractions and reports. The funding also includes ICMP support to Civil Society Initiatives aimed at strengthening the post-conflict institution building, peace initiatives and reconciliation that unresolved missing persons issues create, thus supporting family members, victims groups and other members of civil society by empowerment, networking and awareness. The funding should support the implementation of a long term solution to the issue of missing persons by assisting the state-level Missing Persons Institute (MPI) in Bosnia and Herzegovina to become fully operational and sustainable.
