Norwegian High-Tech to Tuzla

From next year, IT-students at the University of Tuzla will have yet another opportunity to build their own and BiH’s future in the IT sector.

The worldwide leader in design and manufacture of microcontrollers, the Norwegian branch of Atmel Corporation, have donated a IT-design lab to the University of Tuzla. Building on expertise and capacity in BiH, the objective is to further develop IT engineering skills among BiH students, preparing them for employment in cutting-edge IT-enterprises. This effort is facilitated by the Business Innovation and Technology (BIT) Center and supported by the Norwegian Mission of Foreign Affairs.

Implemented by the Norwegian Research and innovation companies Sintef and Siva, the BIT Center in Tuzla celebrates its first year of operation on the 27th of October. The BIT Center is a win-win concept, and with Atmel Corporation entering the scene, its potensial is even greater, the Norwegian ambassador to BiH, Jan Braathu points out.

The Norwegian contribution to the cooperation between the BIT Center, the University of Tuzla and Atmel Corporation is to provide the needed hardware. An donation in itself is not the most important thing. The main factor for success lies with the initial concept itself and the ability of partners to share knowlegde through cooperation. This is the case here in Tuzla where government, business and academic sectors have grasped the opportunity to work together. The BIT Center exemplifies this spirit of entrepreneurship and cooperation. Norway is proud to be a part of this endeavor.

The BIT Center is a project designed for providing young prospective experts and entrepreneurs to start and develop their businesses. There are currently 14 businesses involved in the BIT Center.
